FULTON, Miss. – The ICC softball team picked up a pair of wins over Gulf Coast on Saturday to remained tied for first place in the MACJC with Jones College.
No. 10 ICC 3, No. 7 Gulf Coast 1
The Indians (29-10-1, 18-3 MACJC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Kacey Carpenter (Grenada) reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a ground out by Hope Harbin (Columbus).
ICC extended its lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a single by Harbin that scored Makenzie Toombs (Ackerman) and added another run in the fifth when Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch) scored on a double by Summer Cryder (Tupelo).
Olivia Burns (Grenada) became the program's all-time career wins leader with her 35th win after improving to 16-4 on the season. She gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks.
Cryder went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a RBI.

Trailing 1-0, the Indians scored runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to rally for the 2-1 win to earn the sweep of the Bulldogs (25-11, 17-5 MACJC).
Lilli Moore (Fulton) entered to run for Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) and scored to tie the game when Maggie Smithey (New Albany) reached on a two-out error in the fourth.
Burns entered with bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning and got a fly ball to right to get out of the jam.
The Indians took the lead when Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) walked and stole second before scoring on a single by Sternisha. The throw back into the infield went to third as Meine sprinted home the catcher dropped the ball on the tag allowing ICC to take the one-run lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Gulf Coast put the tying run on with a single to start the sixth, but Burns retired the next three batters and got a three-up, three-down seventh inning to improve to 17-4 on the year.
Cox went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the Indians at the plate in game two.
