No. 12 Indians split with No. 1 Jones

FULTON, Miss. - The Indians moved up to No. 12 in the latest NJCAA DII softball polls on Tuesday and earned a split with No. 1 Jones College with a 6-3 game two win on Wednesday.

No. 12 ICC 6, No. 1 Jones 3

Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, the Indians scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and added a pair of runs in the sixth to earn a split with a 6-3 win in game two against No. 1 Jones College on Wednesday.

Freshman Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) went 3-of-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the win.

Meine blistered a triple to the gap in right to scored Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) to put the Indians up 5-3 and beat the throw home on a squeeze bunt to make it a three-run contest heading into the final frame.

Vasquez was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.

Olivia Burns (Grenada) closed the door on the Bobcats' rally in the top of the seventh to earn the save after giving up one hit and two walks in two innings of work. Kaylee Nelson (Moulton, Ala.) improved to 6-3 on the year with the win.

Jones scored five unearned runs in its 7-0 victory in game one. A pair of Indian errors allowed three runs to score and the Bobcats took advantage of two untimely wild pitches to push across two more runs in the win.
