No. 14 Indians split with No. 9 Co-Lin

WESSON, Miss. – In a battle of top-15 teams, the No. 14 Indians took game one 7-0 over No. 9 Co-Lin, but fell 4-3 in game two in a tight battle.

Game 1: Indians 7, Co-Lin 0

Olivia Burns (Grenada) was dominate in the the first game of the day as she shut down the Wolves throwing a complete game one-hitter and held them hitless for the first six frames.

With Burns dealing in the circle, the Indians (22-9-1, 12-2) Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) and Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) led the offense combining for five of the team's 11 hits. Meine went 3-for-5 and scored two runs in the leadoff spot and Conley picked up two RBI going 2-for-4 and  scoring two runs.

The duo scored the game's first run as Meine scored on a fly ball by Conley in the first. Meine's twin Ellie Meine (Olive Branch) scored in the second as Mattie stole second.

Jessica Davis (Cumberland) plated a run in the third on a shot down the left field line to extend the lead to 3-0, but the Indians exploded for four runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the Wolves.

Macey Cox (Tory, Tenn.), Kacey Carpenter (Grenada) and Conley picked up run scoring hits in the four run frame.

Burns improved to 12-3 this season with her dominating performance.

Game 2: Co-Lin 4, Indians 3

In a tight battle from the start, the Indians fell behind as the Wolves scored four runs over two innings in the middle of the game, but a two-run sixth that saw Summer Cryder (Tupelo), who hit a solo home run earlier in the game, score on an error and Landyn Stoddard (Calhoun City) scored on a sacrifice fly by Carpenter.

Trailing 4-3 and down to their final out, the Indians got a big hit through the six hole that appeared to score the game tying run, but a controversial out call, gave the Wolves the win and the split.

The Indians will return home after three straight road series Tuesday as they host Holmes. First pitch of game one set for 3 p.m. in Fulton, but could be postponed due to rain forcasted Monday the game could be rescheduled if the field isn't playable.
