No. 14 Indians sweep fourth straight opponent with road wins over Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – A 12-1 game one win and a 14-0 run-rule game two victory over Mississippi Delta gave the Indians their fourth consecutive sweep of a conference opponent.

Game 1: Indians 12, Mississippi Delta 1

The Indians (21-8-1, 11-1 MACJC) jumped out to an early lead scoring two run in the second inning and were able to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning to preserve their lead.

Summer Cryder (Tupel0) smashed a solo home run in the third to extend the lead to 3-0, before the Indians opened things up with a four-run fourth.

Kacey Carpenter (Grenada) and Cryder hit run-scoring doubles while Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) singled home a run and Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) scored on an error.

Mississippi Delta answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Indians put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh as Abigail Colvin (Macon) hit a RBI single and Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) hit a grand slam.

Game 2: Indians 14, Mississippi Delta 0 (5-innings)

The Indians took control early in the nightcap, scoring four runs in the first and second frames, before hanging a five spot in the third.

Carpenter's three-run home run in the third highlighted the scoring explosion, but was one of seven Indians to pick up an RBI in the game.

Cryder and Cox both picked up a pair of RBI while Makenzie Toombs (Ackerman), Ellie Meine (Olive Branch), Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch) and Jessica Davis (Cumberland) drove in one run each.

The Indians will stay on the road this weekend as they travel to Wesson to take on No. 9 Copiah-Lincoln. The crucial conference doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. weather permitting.
