No. 18 Indians sweep their third straight conference series

DECATUR, Miss. – The Indians went on the road and defeated East Central, 16-3 in game one and 6-1 in game two for their third straight conference series sweep.

Game 1: Indians 16, East Central 3 (5-innings)

The Indians (19-8-1, 9-1 MACJC) got off to a slow start and feel behind 3-0 after three innings, but exploded for 16 unanswered runs to pick up the run-rule victory.

In the fourth inning, the Indians found their stride as they scored four runs highlighted by a two-run scoring triple off the wall by Hope Harbin (Columbus).

The Indians then rattled off 12-runs in the top of the fifth including a Summer Cryder (Tupelo) home run and a three-run triple by Harbin.

While the offense found their swing, Olivia Burns (Grenada) picked up her tenth win this season and struck out eight in the five inning affair.

Game 2: Indians 6, East Central 1

The Indians took an early lead as Mattie Meine (Olive Branch) hit a bases-loaded double to score three and Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch) singled to score Meine.

East Central plated a run in the sixth, but the Indians added two runs to their lead in the final frame as Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) and Cryder picked up an RBI each.

Kaylee Nelson (Moulton, Ala.) threw five shutout innings to improve to 4-2 this season.

The Indians will travel to Moorhead Wednesday, Apr. 3 for a doubleheader with Mississippi Delta scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
