ICC Softball duo named NFCA All-Americans

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College softball standouts Bailie Springfield (Mantee) and Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.) were named All-American by the  National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday.

Springfield was selected as Second Team All-American pitcher while Sullivan was named Second Team outfielder. 

The duo were a big part of the historic 2018 season for the No. 3 Indians winning a program record 41 games, winning the regular season conference title and earning their highest-ever national ranking (3).

Springfield, a University of Southern Mississippi signee, finished her sophomore season in the red and blue with a 1.54 ERA, 123 strikeouts, seven shutout and a no-hitter in 150.1 innings pitched. She finished with a 20-5 record to earn the program record for wins in a single season. 

Outside the circle, Springfield picked up 21 RBI and scored 35 runs while batting .296 on the year while leading the Indians in doubles (11) and added three triples and a pair of home runs. Springfield saw time in the infield defensively as well and had a .974 fielding percentage.

This postseason the right hander has also received National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23, NFCA All-Region South, Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Pitcher of the year and MACJC First Team All-State honors.

Sullivan led the Indians in numerous offensive categories with a .414 batting average, 55 hits, four home runs and was one of three Indians with 11 doubles. She finished second on the team in RBI (30) and steals (21). In 133 at bats, Sullivan only struck out three times. 

The right handed power hitter also led the Indians in on base percentage (.474), slugging percentage (.602), and hit by pitches (8). In the field, Sullivan had a .957 fielding percentage and record 45 putouts.

Sullivan has also received several postseason honors as she was named NFCA All-Region South and MACJC First Team All-State.
