FULTON, Miss. – Nine members of the Itawamba Community College softball program earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State Honors, the Indian coaches were named Coaching Staff of the Year and Bailie Springfield (Mantee) earned conference Pitcher of the Year.
Olivia Burns (Grenada), Cori Childs (New Site), Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.) and Springfield earned First Team All-State honors for their performances during the historic 2018 season.
Burns finished her freshman season 19-4 with 1.66 ERA and 105 strikeouts and hit .318 with 16 RBI. The freshman was named MACJC Pitcher of the Week twice and her 19 wins are tied for second in program history for wins in a single season.
Childs hit .331 in the leadoff spot and picked up 10 RBI, had 49 stolen bases and scored a team-high 52 runs. The sophomore centerfielder broke the program's career steal record with 78 stolen bases in her two years.
Sullivan hit a team-high .414 in her sophomore season and added 30 RBI, 11 double, one triple, a team-high four home runs and stole 21 bases.
Springfield became the Indians single season wins leader as she finished 20-5 with a 1.54 ERA and 123 strikeouts. The sophomore hit .296 with 21 RBI, 11 doubles, three triples and a pair of home runs. Springfield was the first Indian to earn National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Pitcher of the Week twice in a season and was also named MACJC Pitcher of the Week three times.
Madison Carnes (Ecru), Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.), Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) and McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.) rounded out the list of Indians earning postseason honors being named Second Team All-State.
Carnes anchored the Indian defense at second base and hit .262 with 15 RBI, six doubles, two home runs and five stolen bases in her sophomore campaign.
Conley hit .343 during her freshman season behind the plate and had a team-high 36 RBI and added 11 doubles, one triple, one home run and stole 11 bases.
Cox picked up a 2-2 record and added two saves and struck out 23 in 42.2 innings pitched. The freshman hit .349 with 20 RBI and nine doubles.
Piper hit .319 with 28 RBI, six doubles, one triple and stole seven bases during her sophomore season.
Sophomore Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) was named All-State Honorable Mention as she hit .265 with 14 RBI, 24 runs scored and stole seven bases.
Head Coach Andy Kirk and Assistant Coach Kami Ann Hall led the Indians to a MACJC Regular Season Championship, a program record 41 wins and earned their highest NJCAA Ranking (3) to earn MACJC Coaching Staff of the Year.
