No. 3 Indians fall to No. 4 Jones in MACJC Championship

FULTON, Miss. – Even though they earned the MACJC Regular Season Championship, the No. 3 Indians took on No. 4 Jones County in their first ever Tournament Championship game, and earned MACJC runner-up as the Bobcats picked up an 8-0 victory.

The Indians (41-9) hit the ball well but only had three fall for hits. Bailie Springfield(Mantee) picked up the Indians first hit with a two out single in the second and McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.) singled with two outs in the fourth. Hannah Williams(Philadelphia) singled in the fifth with one out, but the Indians were unable to push across a run.

Jones County jumped out to an early lead on a first inning solo home run and then added three runs in the second on two hits, an error and three walks. In the fourth they added three additional runs and scored the game ending run with one out in the fifth to win the MACJC Tournament Championship.

The loss ended the tournament but not the Indians season as they host the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament beginning Thursday on the Fulton Campus. They will face No. 2 LSU-Eunice to open the tournament at 4 p.m.

No. 4 Jones County and No. 10 East Central will return to Fulton for the tournament as well and will square off in the 6 p.m. game Thursday night.
