FULTON, Miss. – With a spot in the MACJC Tournament Championship on the line, the No. 3 Indians picked up six hits but were unable to push across a run, falling to No. 4 Jones County 6-0.
The Indians (40-8) started the game with back-to-back two-out singles by Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) and McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala), but Jones County was able to leave them stranded courtesy of a strike out.
Over the next three innings, the Indians scattered two hits as Bailie Springfield (Mantee) singled in the second and Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) in the fourth. Conley, who finished 2-for-3, picked up the last hit for the Indians in the sixth, but the tribe was unable to piece together the hits to pick a up a run.
The Indian defense held Jones County scoreless for three frames, but the Lady Bobcats plated two runs in the fourth to break the scoreless affair.
After picking up a run in the fifth, Jones County scored three runs in the sixth to earn the 6-0 victory and a spot in the championship game.
The Indians will face the winner of the tournament's first elimination game between No. 10 East Central and Pearl River immediately following that game.
