No. 3 Indians sweep Southwest Tennessee

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 3 Indians completed the sweep of Southwest Tennessee Community College with an 8-0 Game 2 win in five innings on Tuesday.

ICC struck quickly by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Cori Childs (New Site) tripled and scored on a single by Hannah Williams (Philadelphia), who scored on a wild pitch to give the Indians a 2-0 lead. Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) singled and scored on a ground out before McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.) singled and scored on a double by Joanna Vasquez (Southaven).

The Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the mercy rule.

Childs singled and stole second before scoring on a double by Williams. Williams was replaced on the bases by Haley Reid (Batesville), who scored on an error by the Saluqis. Lilli Moore entered to run for Cox and scored on a single by Shelby Newsom (Cleveland). Burns singled and was replaced on the bases by Madison Carnes (Ecru), who scored the game-ending run on a single by Vasquez.

Bailie Springfield (Mantee) moved into second most wins in a season (18) after giving up a pair of hits and tossing four scoreless innings of work.
