Softball moves to No. 3 in NJCAA rankings; host Northeast in playoffs

FULTON, Miss. – Two weeks after earning the program's highest ranking in school history, the ICC softball team moved up one spot in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DII rankings on Tuesday.

The 37-7 Indians are No. 3 in the country, after starting the season unranked, and earned the program's first-ever Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) regular season championship after sweeping Meridian Community College on Saturday.

Other MACJC teams joining the Indians in this week's national rankings include: No. 4 Jones County Junior College (42-3) and No. 11 East Central Community College (32-10). Des Moines Area (Iowa) (36-0) and LSU-Eunice (37-14) remain the top two teams, respectively.

ICC closed out the regular season by sweeping Southwest Tennessee Community College Tuesday night with a 5-1 win in the opening game and an 8-0 win in five innings in the nightcap.

Kirk and the Indians will face Northeast Mississippi Community College (26-19) on Friday and Saturday in the opening round of the MACJC playoffs. The best-of-three series will start with Game 1 at 5:00 Friday night. The second game is scheduled for 1:00 Saturday afternoon with the third game scheduled for 20-30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2, if needed.

Admission will be $5.00 per day. Individuals with MACJC state passes and ICC student and employee IDs will be granted free admission. The series will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/RED
