No. 4 Indians complete sweep of Coahoma with 4-1 victory

FULTON, Miss. – After a ceremony to honor the sophomore class between games, the No. 4 Indians completed the sweep of Coahoma with a 4-1 win.

Coahoma took advantage of an Indian error to manufacturer one run off one hit and a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead in the first.

The Indians (33-7, 24-2 MACJC) answered with a pair of run in the bottom of the first frame to take the lead as McKenzie Piper(Pell City, Ala.) tripled to score Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) and Bailie Springfield(Mantee) doubled to score Piper.

Cori Childs(New Site) doubled in the second to score Shelby Newsom(Cleveland) and Piper scored on a Coahoma miscue in the third to score the game's final run.

The three run lead proved to be enough as Olivia Burns (Grenada) threw a complete game and striking out 8 while allowing only five hits to improve to 15-2 this season.

Saturday, the Indians will wrap up conference play as they travel to Meridian for the final conference doubleheader against the Lady Eagles at 1 p.m. A sweep on Saturday would clinch the MACJC regular season championship for the Indians and give them the No. 1 seed and home field for the conference best-of-three playoff series beginning April 27.
