No. 4 Indians defeat Coahoma 6-1 in game one

FULTON, Miss. – A nine strikeout performance by Bailie Springfield(Mantee) and a two RBI game by McKenzie Piper(Pell City, Ala.) pushed the No. 4 Indians a to a 6-1 game one win over Coahoma Wednesday.

Springfield threw a complete game three hitter and he lone run allowed came off a solo home run that appeared to be several feet foul to fans in attendance, and was the fifth time this season she struck out seven or more.

The sophomore right hander also picked up her 17th win of the season which ties her for second place all time in the ICC record books with former Indian Hannah Johnson, who had 17 in 2014. Springfield is only two wins shy of tying the single season wins record that was set last season at 19 by Carleigh Mills.

Piper tied the game with her first RBI of the day on a ground out and added to the lead in the sixth with a RBI single as she went 1-for-3 in the game.

Macey Cox(Troy, Tenn.) led the Indians (32-7, 23-2 MACJC)   in hitting going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double.

Joanna Vasquez(Southaven), Shelby Newsom(Cleveland) and Springfield all added an RBI to help the Indians pick up the 6-1 victory.
