No. 4 Indians sweep EMCC with 6-1 Game 2 win

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians' bats woke up in the final game of the day to pick up a 6-1 win to complete the sweep of East Mississippi on Tuesday.

Cori Childs (New Site) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and a double to led the Indians at the plate.

The Lions (17-22, 13-11 MACJC) grabbed early momentum when Kelsey English singled and scored on a single by Mollie Singleterry in the top of the first, but the Indians (30-6, 21-1 MACJC) answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Childs walked and stole second before scoring on a one-out single by Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.). Conley advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Bailie Springfield before a two-out single by Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) gave the Indians a 2-1 lead. Cox advance to second on the throw home and scored on a double by Shelby Newsom (Cleveland) to take a two-run lead after the first inning of play.

Newsom put the Indians up 4-1 on a solo home run in the third – her first of the season.

The Indians tacked on a run in the fourth when Childs scored when Conley reached on a fielder's choice and another in the sixth when Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) singled and scored on a single by Conley.

Conley went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

Olivia Burns (Grenada) improved to 13-2 on the season after giving up one earned run on eight hits while striking out five in the complete game effort.

The Indians totaled 10 hits in the win with Childs, Conley, Newsom and Vasquez each having multiple-hit performances.

The win marked the seventh-straight seasons the Indians have won 30 or more games.

ICC will travel to Gulf Coast Community College (15-11, 10-8 MACJC) on Friday. Due to construction at the ballpark, the location of the games has yet to be determined.
