FULTON, Miss. – Freshman Olivia Burns has been named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Pitcher of the Week for her performances against Holmes Community College and Southwest Mississippi Community College last week.
Burns had a career-high seven strikeouts and tossed a one-hitter to record her third shutout of the season in the No. 10 Indians' Game 2 win over Southwest to improve to 11-2 on the year. She gave up one run, earned, on three hits and two walks with one strikeout in a complete game victory at Holmes on Monday.
The Grenada High School alumna has given up 27 runs, 22 earned, on 56 hits and 37 walks while striking out 44 and has a 2.06 ERA in 16 appearances. She is also batting .365 with 19 hits and 11 RBI in 52 at-bats.
The Indians (26-6, 17-1 MACJC) are scheduled to be back in action on Saturday against No. 1 Jones County Junior College (32-1, 18-0 MACJC) in Ellisville - weather pending.
