FULTON, Miss. – Bailie Springfield (Mantee) threw a complete game three hitter from the circle and hit two big extra base hits to lead the No. 10 Indians to a 4-1 game one victory over Southwest Friday.
Current MACJC and NJCAA Pitcher of the Week, Springfield led off the second with a double and later scored on a single by Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) that also score Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) to put the Indians on the board.
Vasquez later scored on a single by Cori Childs (New Site) to complete the three run frame for the Tribe.
The Indians (25-6, 16-1 MACJC) then saw Springfield strikeout four in a row and not allow a hit until the fourth inning and scattered two other hits in the fifth and seventh.
Southwest was able to sneak across a run after the Indians committed an error, but a solo home run by Springfield in the fifth had put the tribe up by four prior to the final frame.
Springfield improves to 14-2 this season and is currently fourth in wins in the NJCAA and has a 1.12 ERA that is tenth nationally.
