FULTON, Miss. – The honors keep rolling in for sophomore pitcher Bailie Springfield.
After earning her third Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Pitcher of the Week honor on Tuesday, Springfield was selected as National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
Springfield (Mantee) went 3-0 and threw 18 shutout innings on the week. She had 16 strikeouts and only gave up seven hits and two walks to help the No. 10 Indians improve to 22-6 and 13-1 inside conference play last week.
The East Webster alumna improved to 13-2 on the year in the Indians' 15-2 Game 1 win at Holmes on Monday. She has tossed six shutouts and ranks in the nation's Top 5 in wins. Her 1.21 ERA ranks 14th in the country while having the most innings pitched (87.0) amongst the leaders. Springfield's 69 strikeouts on the season is 12th in the country.
Springfield is the first pitcher to earn multiple NJCAA Pitcher of the Week honors in a season. She was also named Fast Pitch News JUCO Pitcher of the Week during the first week of the season.
The Indians (24-6, 15-1 MACJC) are currently second in the MACJC and are scheduled to be back in action on Friday against Southwest Mississippi with game one starting at 1:00 p.m. – weather pending.
