No. 8 Indians sweep Co-Lin with 4-1 Game 2 win

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 8 Indians got timely hits and a four-hitter from Olivia Burns (Grenada) to earn a 4-1 win over Co-Lin Community College to improve to 22-6 overall and 13-1 in conference play.

Co-Lin (14-13, 5-7 MACJC) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Callie Fortenberry doubled and scored on a single by Morgan Dubose. ICC answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Cori Childs (New Site) doubled to left and scored on a double to right by Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.), who came around to score when Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) reached on an error.

Burns got a pair of strikeouts to get the Wolves to go three up, three down in the top of the second. The Indians got out of the third inning when Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) caught Alex Anthony trying to steal second.

The Indians picked up a run when Cox singled and scored when the catcher dropped the ball on the throw home after a single by McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.). ICC tacked on its final run in the bottom of the fifth when Childs singled stole second and stole home.

Burns improved to 9-2 on the year after giving up one earned run on four hits and a walk while striking out four in seven innings of work.

Childs and Piper combined for four of the Indians' seven hits in the win.

ICC is scheduled to face Holmes Community College (10-11, 5-7 MACJC) on Monday and Southwest Mississippi Community College (11-13 4-10 MACJC) on Friday – weather pending.
