Springfield’s two-hitter leads No. 8 ICC to 8-0 win over Co-Lin

FULTON, Miss. – Sophomore pitcher Bailie Springfield threw a two-hitter and recorded her sixth shutout of the season, leading the No. 8 Indians to an 8-0 Game 1 win over Co-Lin Community College on Friday.

After giving up a two-out single in the top of the first, Springfield (Mantee) retired 14 of the next 15 batters before Callie Fortenberry reached on a single with one out in the sixth. She finished the game with four strikeouts and one walk to improve to 12-2 on the season.

The Indians (21-6, 12-1 MACJC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.) doubled and scored on a single by Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.). Shelby Newsom (Cleveland) walked and scored when Sullivan reached on a fielder's choice before Madison Carnes (Ecru) doubled to left and came across on a ground ball by Conley.

Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) singled and scored when Newsom reached on an error. Sullivan drove in her second run of the game with a single that plated Cori Childs (New Site), who singled and stole second to start the third.

Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) singled and Carnes reached on an error before both eventually scored on a pair of wild pitches in the inning. Williams started the sixth with her second hit of the game and scored the game-ending run on a throwing error to third.

ICC totaled 10 hits with Sullivan and Williams each recording a pair of hits in the win.
