No. 8 Indians rebound to take care of Delta, 10-0 in 5 innings

FULTON, Miss. – After dropping their first conference game of the season, The No. 8 Indians took care of business with a 10-0 win in 5 innings over Mississippi Delta Community College Game 1 of the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Series.

The Indians (19-6, 10-1 MACJC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) singled and scored on a line drive to left by McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.) before pushing across a pair of runs in the second to take a 3-0 advantage. Bailie Springfield (Mantee) drew a walk to start the inning and scored on a throwing error when Madison Carnes (Ecru) stole second, who came around to score after the second throwing error on the play.

ICC opened things up with a four-run fourth inning.

Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) and Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) scored on a triple by Springfield. Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) followed with a single to score Springfield. Cori Childs (New Site) roped a two-out single by the third baseman to score Vasquez to put the Indians on top 7-0.

The Indians put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch) drew a two-out walk and Williams singled before Springfield blasted her second triple of the game to right to score both runners. Springfield scored on a single to left by Vasquez to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

Makenzie Toombs (Ackerman) entered to pitch in the top of the fifth and surrendered a hit before closing the door on the Trojans (0-16, 0-8 MACJC).

Springfield improved to 12-2 on the season after giving up one hit and striking out three of 13 batters faced in four innings of scoreless action.
