No. 8 Indians split with Pearl River after, 5-3, loss in Game 2

POPLARVILLE, Miss. – Timely hitting and a four-run rally helped Pearl River Community College earn a split with the No. 8 Indians behind a 5-3 Game 2 win.

After a missed strike three call to end the inning that had the batter walking away from the plate, the Wildcats (12-10, 5-3 MACJC) cashed in on the extra opportunity with a two-run double down the right field line by Elizabeth Taggart to tie game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Pearl River took a 4-3 lead when Halle Melone followed with a single to plate Taggart and Alyssa Pinero capped off the inning with a double to push across the final run of the inning.

The Wildcats took care of business defensively in the top of the seventh to get a three up, three down inning to pick up the victory.

The Indians (18-6, 9-1 MACJC) scored a pair of runs in the top of the third when Olivia Burns (Grenada) and Cori Childs (New Site) scored on a two-out single by Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.).

Pearl River answered when Ramee Taylor scored on an error to cut the Indians' lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth. ICC got the run back in the fifth when Madison Carnes (Ecru) scored when Sullivan reached on a two-out error by the Wildcats.

ICC managed six hits in the loss with Sullivan going 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Indians will be back in action tomorrow against Mississippi Delta Community College in their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Series in Fulton. The opening pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
