Error haunts No. 11 Indians in pitcher’s duel with No. 2 Des Moines Area

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 11 Indian softball team dropped a hard-fought pitcher's duel against No. 2 Des Moines Area (Iowa) Community College on Monday.

Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) drove in Haley Reid (Batesville) to cut the Bears' lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Indians (17-4) left the tying run stranded after back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning.

The Bears (8-0) took advantage of a two-out error to plate a run in the top of the third and got a solo home run by Kaisha Wells to start the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

ICC were held to three hits in the loss. Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.) doubled while Williams and Bailie Springfield (Mantee) both had a single.

Des Moines Area were led by Bailey Richards, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a pair of singles and a RBI. Bears' ace pitcher Molly Jacobsen surrendered her first earned run of the season and struck out nine to improve to 4-0 on the year.

Springfield fell to 9-2 on the season after giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out five in the loss.
