Indians run-rule Jackson State, 10-1, in Game 1

Fulton, Miss. – The Indians improved to 3-0 on the season with a 10-1 win over Jackson State (Tenn.) Community College in 6 innings in the first game of the day Saturday.

The Indians took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) drew a one-out walk and scored on a two-run home run by Meg Sullivan (Springville, Ala.) before McKenzie Piper (Pell City, Ala.) and Bailie Springfield (Mantee) rounded out the scoring in the inning.

The Generals (0-1) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, but the Indians answered with 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Brittany Adams (Netttleton) drew a walk to start the inning and advanced to third when Madison Carnes' (Ecru) sacrifice bunt forced Jackson State to commit a throwing error. Cori Childs (New Site) loaded the bases when she reached on the second error of the inning. Adams and Carnes scored on back-to-back bases loaded walk issued to Hannah Williams (Philadelphia) and Conley to give the Indians a 6-1 lead.

Childs scored when Sullivan reached on a fielder's choice and Williams came across on a single by Piper. Sullivan gave the Indians a 9-1 lead when she scored on a single by Springfield. Lilli Moore (Fulton) entered to run for Springfield and scored when Adams reached on a fielder's choice before the Generals could get out of the inning.

Leading 10-1, the Indians closed the door on Jackson State's rally to extend the contest when Joanna Vasquez (Southaven) fielded a ground ball and stepped on third for the final out of the game.

Springfield picked up her second victory of the season by striking out 6 and walking 1 of the 22 batters faced while giving up 1 run on 5 hits in 5 innings of work.

Piper and Springfield each went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI with Sullivan finishing the game with 3 RBI.
