Schedule released for NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament
The schedule for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 softball tournament has been released and will feature four of the top seven teams in the country. Originally scheduled to start Thursday, tournament officials and participating coaches agreed to start on Wednesday in order to beat the high chances of rain forecasted for Friday.

FULTON, MS – The schedule for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 softball tournament has been released and will feature four of the top seven teams in the country.
Originally scheduled to start Thursday, tournament officials and participating coaches agreed to start on Wednesday in order to beat the high chances of rain forecasted for Friday.
No. 6 Itawamba Community College (39-12-1) will enter the tournament as the fourth seed and take on Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Champion and tournament host No. 1 Jones County Junior College (47-2) in the first round of the tournament starting at 6:00 p.m.
ICC and Jones split its regular season doubleheader in Fulton with the Bobcats taking the first game of the day and the Indians rallying to pick up a 2-1 win in the nightcap.
No. 7 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (39-12) enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 2 LSU-Eunice (46-10), the three seed, at 4:00 p.m. in the opening game of the double elimination tournament.
The winners from Wednesday will play at 1:00 p.m. with the losers playing in the first elimination game of the tournament at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The loser from the 1:00 p.m. game will face the winner of the 3:00 p.m. contest in the second elimination game of the day starting at 5:00 p.m.
In the event of rain on Friday, the championship series will be moved to Saturday. The NJCAA rulebook states that all region tournaments must be completed by Saturday, May 13. With the region receiving two bids to the national tournament, the tournament may conclude without the championship series.
The final two teams of the tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division II Tournament May 17-20 at Traceway Park in Clinton.
Admission to the Region 23 Tournament will be $5.00 per day. Only MACJC passes will be accepted at the gate.
