Softball to face East Mississippi in weekend playoff series

FULTON, MS – The No. 6 ICC Indians will open the 2017 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) softball playoffs against East Mississippi Community College with Game 1 of a best-of-three series scheduled for Friday.
Friday's Renasant Bank opening pitch at the newly renovated ICC Softball Complex is slated for 5:00 p.m. Game 2 of the series has been set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with Game 3, if needed, to be played after a short intermission between games.
The two former North Division rivals met at Scooba in mid-April with the Indians (36-10-1) picked up a pair wins over the Lions (18-25). Sophomore second baseman Alex Brown (Pontotoc) hit a grand slam in ICC's 10-4 Game 1 victory. Freshman pitcher and shortstop Caroline Dickins (Batesville) hit a two-run home run that proved to be the difference maker in the Indians 5-4 in the nightcap.
The playoff series will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/RED. Admission for the tournament will be $5.00 per day and only MACJC passes will be accepted. ICC students, faculty, and staff will be admitted free with a vaild college ID.
The Indians earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament after splitting with No. 1 seed Jones County Junior College (42-2) to hold the tiebreaker over No. 4 seed East Central Community College (40-6).
Other first-round games include: Jones County taking on No. 8 seed Southwest Mississippi Community College (18-25), No. 2 seed Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (35-10) against No. 7 seed Northeast Mississippi Community College (29-19), and No. 4 seed East Central hosting No. 5 seed Northwest Mississippi Community College (22-18).
The winners from the best-of-three series will advance to the MACJC State Tournament (May 5-7) at the site of the highest remaining seed.
PLEASE NOTE: The City of Fulton will be hosting its Bluegrass, Blues, & BBQ Festival on Friday and Saturday. Please allow extra time in your plans to travel to the games in the event of extra traffic in the downtown and square areas. For those planning to come to campus via the Access Road on Saturday, there will be a 5K from 9:00 to 10:00 AM that will include West Main Street and a small portion of the Access Road as part of the route.
Instructions to avoid downtown and square areas: Coming from Tupelo, exit off I22 and take a left at the traffic light onto S Adams Street. Take a left at the next light onto South Access Road. Take a right onto West Main Street (there will be a small parking area for the walking track on the left side of the road as an indicator for your turn). Take a left onto Hill Street, shortly after passing Davis Ford. Take a right at the stop sign next to the Davis Event Center and the ICC Softball Complex will be on the left.
