GOODMAN, MS – The No. 6 Indians were able to fight off a scrappy bunch of Bulldogs to pick up a 4-2 win in the first game of the day against Holmes Community College on Wednesday.

Alex Brown (Pontotoc) broke open a scoreless contest in the top of the third with a three-run home run to center. Bre Harford (Southaven) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) followed with a single before Brown's sixth homer of the season.

The Bulldogs (12-27, 8-17 MACJC) put a pair of runners on the bottom half of the inning before Caroline Dickins (Batesville) recorded her fourth strikeout and got a fly out to Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) in right field to end the threat.

ICC (33-10-1, 20-5 MACJC) put a pair of runners on in the fourth and fifth innings and another in the sixth, but were unable to tack on any insurance runs.

Brown reached on a single to start the seventh inning and moved into scoring position on a single by Sullivan before scoring on a sacrifice fly to right by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.

Holmes took advantage of an error and a hit batter to push across a pair of runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before Hollenhead was able to squeeze the final out in foul territory with the tying run on first.

The Indians strung together 11 hits in the contest and left six runners in scoring position. Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston), Meg Sullivan, and Brown each had a pair of hits in the win with McKenzie Piper (Pell City, AL), Autry, Dickins, Harford, and Hollenhead each adding a single to the mix.

Dickins improved to 10-3 on the season after giving up one earned run on six hits while striking out six batters in the complete game effort.

The win gave the 2017 sophomore class its 72nd win, the most wins for a sophomore class in the history of the program.
