No. 9 Indians roll against Blue Mountain in 5 innings

New Albany, MS – In a doubleheader originally scheduled to be against the freshmen and sophomores on the Blue Mountain College softball team, the Indians picked up a 11-3 win in five innings against a lineup featuring six junior and seniors.
Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) stole home to give the Indians a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Toppers tied the game on a ground out by junior Cheyenne Meadors in the bottom half of the inning.
Sullivan went three for three with three doubles, three runs scored and three RBI.
The Indians answered with four runs in the second. Caroline Dickins (Batesville) was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs). Bre Harford (Southaven) singled and scored on a double by Alex Brown (Pontotoc). Autry and Brown scored on a triple by Sullivan to give the Indians a 5-1 lead.
ICC added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning when Kaitlyn Rhodes (Alexandria, AL) reached on a fielder's choice to score Sullivan and a double off the fence by Dickins scored McKenzie Piper (Pell City, AL)
Piper finished the game with a pair of singles, a run scored, and a RBI.
Blue Mountain picked up a pair of runs on a throwing error and a single by junior Madison Gillean.
The Indians stretched their lead out with another four-run inning in the fifth. Harford started the inning with a walk and was replaced on the bases by Haley Reid (Batesville). Reid would race home on a two-out single by Brown. Brown stole second and scored on a double by Sullivan, who stole home for the second time in the game to give the Indians a 10-3 lead. Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) singled and stole second before giving the tribe an eight-run advantage on a single by Piper.
Meadors started the inning with a single, but was thrown out trying to score from second when the perfect relay home from Autry to Brown to Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston). Junior Miah Edmonds reached on a two-out single before a pop up to shallow center was squeezed by Brown to invoke the mercy-rule victory for the Indians.
The Indians hammered out 15 hits with five players recording multiple hits in the win.
Grayson Wells (Greenwood) improved to 5-1 on the year after giving up one earned run on eight hits and a walk to go along with three strikeouts.
