SCOOBA, MS – A strong fifth inning helped power the No. 9 Indians' 10-4 Game 1 victory over East Mississippi (17-19, 14-7 MACJC) on Tuesday.

McKenzie Piper (Pell City, AL) smashed a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the first to help set the tone for the Indians early in the contest. Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) added a two-out, two-run double in the top of the second to give ICC a 4-0 lead.

Sullivan went three for four with a walk and a run scored.

East Mississippi caught a break in the bottom of the third inning when Mallory Vance ripped a line drive down the line in left and motored around the bases for a three-run, inside-the-park home run to make it a 4-3 contest in favor of the Indians.

The Indians answered with a six-run fifth inning, highlight by Alex Brown's (Pontotoc) first career grand slam and fifth home run of the season to give the Indians a 10-3 advantage. The Lions rallied with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth before the Indians rolled to the six-run victory.

Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) had a pair of hits in the game, one going for a triple, to help the Indians total 11 hits.

Caroline Dickins (9-3) gave up four earned runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts to pick up her ninth win of the season. Defensively, the Indians turn two double plays in the first game of the day.
