No. 14 Indians knock off Northwest in 5 innings, 10-1

SENATOBIA, MS – Caroline Dickins (Batesville) gave up one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in the Indians 10-1 win in five innings over Northwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday.

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after Alex Brown (Pontotoc) doubled and scored on a two-out single by McKenzie Piper (Pell City, AL) before pushing across five runs in the top of the second to pull away for a 6-0 lead.

Bre Harford (Southaven) doubled and advanced to third after back-to-back sac bunts Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) and Dickins. Harford scored on a single by Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston), who was replaced on the bases by Cori Childs (New Site). Brown was hit by a pitch before Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) singled to score Childs. Brown and Sullivan scored on a double by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston), who scored on a wild pitch before the Rangers could get out of the inning.

Childs had three stolen bases and two runs scored in the win.

The Indians plated a pair of runs on a two-run single by Kaitlyn Rhodes (Alexandria, AL) to take 8-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth. Northwest got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Sally Rose Carver doubled and scored on a single by Allison Williams.

ICC picked up two more runs in the fifth when Childs scored on a triple by Brown, who scored on a double by Meg Sullivan. The Rangers rallied with back-to-back singles and a two-out walk to load the bases before Dickins squeeze a pop-up to end the rally.

Brown, Hollenhead, and Meg Sullivan each had a pair of hits in the Indians' 12-hit performance.
