FULTON, MS – In a battle of nationally ranked opponents, No. 14 Itawamba Community College took game one of the doubleheader from No. 12 East Central with a 9-1 run-rule victory in six innings.

The Indians (21-8-1) wasted little time as they started the contest with four straight hits including back-to-back run scoring doubles by Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) and Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston), and a RBI single by McKenzie Piper (Pell City, AL).

For starting pitcher Caroline Dickins (Batesville), the three first innings runs would have been enough as she held the dangerous Warriors to only three hits while striking out seven in six innings, but the tribe added three run ins bot the fourth and sixth frames.

Piper, who went 3-for-4, drove in two runs in the fourth and Kaitlyn Rhodes (Alexandria, AL) followed with an RBI on a sacrifice bunt. In the sixth, the Indians completed the run-rule victory on run scoring singles by Bre Harford ( Southaven), Madison Carnes (Ecru) and Rhodes.

East Central's lone run came on a home run to left in the second, but Dickins, who improves to 6-3 this season, and the Indian defense controlled the game after that.
