Indians find a way in Game 1 against Meridian

FULTON, MS – Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) triple in the bottom of the first inning proved to be the difference maker in the Indians' 1-0 Game 1 win over Meridian Community College on Friday.
Bre Harford (Southaven) going two for two with a walk to lead the Indians, who only managed five hits in the first game of the day.
The Indians put runners in scoring position six times and could not manage to come up with the timely hit throughout the afternoon.
Meridian loaded the bases in the top of the second inning before back-to-back heads up defensive play by Mamie Hollenhead got the Indians out of the jam. The sophomore third baseman cut down the runner at home on a squeeze play for the first out before turning an unassisted double play where she tagged the runner trying to score from home and beat the runner trying to advance from second to the bag at third to end the inning.
The Eagles would put the tying run on in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, but could not cash in out the opportunities in the one-run loss.
Carleigh Mills (Corinth) improved to 8-4 on the season after striking out seven batters and scattering seven hits in a complete game shutout.
