Poplarville, MS – The No. 12 Itawamba Community College softball team split a road doubleheader at Pearl River Community College after winning the first game of the series 7-4 on Friday.

In the first game of the day, the Indians (18-8-1, 7-3 MACJC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after Kaitlyn Rhodes (Alexandria, AL) and Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston) each had a RBI single to go along with McKenzie Piper's (Pell City, AL) two-run double in the top of the first inning.

ICC muscled its way out to a 7-0 lead with a three-run top of the third. Meg Sullivan (Springville, AL) pushed across innings first run on a single before Rhodes added two more runs on the board with a single.

Then the Indians bats went quiet.

Pearl River (12-14, 4-10 MACJC) rallied with a run in the bottom of fourth and two more in the fifth before grabbing momentum to make it a 7-4 contest with a run in bottom of the sixth, but the Indians dodged disaster with a three up, three down bottom of the seventh inning to hang on for the victory.

Carleigh Mills (Corinth) went the distance for the Indians to move to 10-4 on the year after allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six in the win.

Meg Sullivan finished the game with three hits while Rhodes had three RBI on two hits. Piper and Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) each added a pair of hits to the Indians' 11 hits in the first game of the day.
