FULTON, MS – Sophomores Alex Brown (Pontotoc) and Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) have committed to continue their careers after Itawamba Community College with the national champion University of North Alabama softball program.

Brown had a standout freshman season at Itawamba Community College hitting .438 with 45 RBI, 16 doubles, two triples and six home runs. The utility player led the team with a .734 slugging percentage and finished second in the nation in hit by pitches with 21.

She had a .985 fielding percentage while splitting time between catching and second base. While in the middle infield, Brown assisted in eight double plays and recorded 126 put outs and 67 assists.

Hollenhead was an offensive juggernaut during her freshman campaign leading the team in batting average (.475), hits (77), RBI (57), doubles (17) and home runs (7), and finished with a .710 slugging percentage.

While anchoring the Indian infield at the hot corner, Hollenhead recorded 62 put outs and led the Indians with 115 assists to finish with a .941 fielding percentage.

The duo helped the Indians to a record breaking season with a 39-10 overall record.

Brown and Hollenhead earned Mississippi Association of Junior and Community Colleges (MACJC) All-State, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-South Region First Team and MACJC Player of the Week honors for their standout freshman seasons.

The duo also earned NFCA All-American honors with Brown being named to the First Team and Hollenhead to the Second Team.

The Lions are coming off a record breaking season that earned them a 60-7 record and the NCAA Division II National Championship.
