Brown, Hollenhead named to NFCA All-Region South team

FULTON, MS – Freshmen Alex Brown and Mamie Hollenhead have been named to the 2016 National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) All-South Region first team.
Brown (Pontotoc) finished the season with a .438 batting average, 45 RBI, 16 doubles, six home runs and two triples while only striking out four times in 128 at-bats. She led the team with a .734 slugging percentage and .545 on-base percentage while holding a .985 fielding percentage as a second baseman and catcher.
Hollenhead (Mathiston) batted a team-best .475 while driving in a team-high 57 runs in her inaugural season with the Indians. She led the team with 77 hits, 17 doubles and seven home runs while finishing the season with a .710 slugging percentage and .438 on-base percentage. Hollenhead had a .941 fielding percentage on 188 total chances at third base.
Both received Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region honors. They were also named MACJC Player of the Week once during the season.
The NFCA All-Region awards honors student-athletes from the Association's three regions with first-team recognition. NFCA member coaches from each respective region voted on the teams and all the honorees are eligible for selection to the 2016 NFCA NJCAA DII All-American teams.
The All-American squads will be announced on Friday, June 10.

The duo join former Indians Rebecca Sloan (Oneonta, AL), Kory Watterson (Nesbit) and Courtney Roberts (Hatley) as NFCA All-South selections. Watterson was named NFCA All-American in 2014.
