FULTON, MS – Cassidy Hardy did big things for the Indians during her two years in Fulton.

Her sophomore class is the first to win 70-plus games (76) by setting the single season record for wins with 37 in 2015 and breaking that mark with 39 wins in 2016. She finished her career at ICC with a 13-5 record and 3.19 ERA while earning conference Pitcher of the Week honors, tossing a perfect game as a freshman

While humbly taking care of business on the diamond, the Gordo, AL native was doing even bigger things in the classroom.

Hardy maintained a perfect GPA while facing the rigors of being a student-athlete and much like her athletic success, her hard work and dedication in classroom has also been greatly rewarded when she was accepted into the prestigious Mississippi IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) Research Scholars program.

The program is an 11-week summer research internship for undergraduate students. Selected students spend one week in May at the University of Southern Mississippi and following eight to ten weeks, Hardy will conduct research in the field of ergonomics at Mississippi State University.

Hardy received a $4,500 award for being accepted to the program.

At Southern Miss, she will attend biomedical research training sessions, which includes training in basic laboratory techniques, responsible conduct of research, ethics, biosafety, bioinformatics and career development.

Hardy's mentor at MSU will be Dr. Kari Babski-Reeves, an associate professor of industrial and systems engineering and was recently named dean of research and graduate studies of the Bagley College of Engineering.

Scholars are required to present research at scientific at events such as the Mississippi Academy of Sciences meeting, a full abstract to the Mississippi INBRE staff and a presentation at the 2016 Mississippi INBRE Symposium.

The INBRE Research Scholars Program is designed to build a biomedical research infrastructure in Mississippi with the mission to improve health throughout the state and to engage talented researchers and students in biomedical research projects that will increase the state's research competitiveness as well as impact the health of citizens of Mississippi.
