FULTON, MS – The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) announced the schedule for its State Softball Tournament Monday morning and the opening game will be a battle of nationally ranked opponents.

The No. 7 Itawamba Community College softball squad will go head-to-head with No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Friday at 4:00 pm.

Earlier this season, the Indians (39-8) and Lady Bulldogs exchanged 1-0 victories in the conference opening doubleheader in Perkinston.

The Indians and Lady Bulldogs (43-3) both swept their opponents in round one of the playoffs and are joined in the tournament by East Central Community College (42-7) and the host, Jones County Junior College (39-6).

All four teams have been ranked in the top ten at one point this season and East Central is the only squad not currently ranked as they dropped from the latest poll due to NJCAA Stat-Entry Policy. Their last ranking was fifth in the nation.

The tournament is double-elimination format with two games played Friday, three on Saturday and one or two if necessary to determine the champion on Sunday.

Three of the teams will advance to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament that will be held the following week at No. 1 LSU-Eunice.
