FULTON, MS – After winning a tight battle in game on, No. 9 Itawamba Community College's softball teams hot bats propelled them to a 9-1 run-rule victory in game two.

The Indians plated four runs in the second inning to as Lane Kennedy (Smithville) picked up a pair of RBIs on a single and Alex Brown (Pontotoc) followed with a two-run home run to left.

With a 4-0 lead, Carleigh Mills (Corinth), who started game two, settled in striking out five of the seven batters she faced in the third and fourth innings, and got even more run support in the fifth frame.

Four straight hits in the bottom of the fourth drove in three runs to extend the Indians' lead to 7-0. Lane Kennedy (Smithville) started the rally with her second single of the game, and scored on a triple by Alex Brown (Pontotoc) in the following at bat.

Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) followed with a double to score Brown and touched the plate on Hollenhead's single.

The Lady Lions would get a run back in the fifth as Danielle Darmohray hit a solo shot to lead off the inning, but Mills sat down the next three batters to keep the lead at 7-1.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians ended the game early as Kennedy and Brown drove in a run each to pick up the 9-1 run-rule win and the sweep.

Brown finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI and only a double shy of the cycle, and Kennedy also went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Mills picked up the win as she allowed only four hits, one run and struck out seven of the 18 batters she faced and improves to 13-1 this season.

The Indians will travel to Ellisville Friday, April 8 for a MACJC doubleheader with nationally ranked Jones County Junior College. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm and can be seen on LetsGoICCTV.com
