Softball completes sweep of Northwest, 8-1

FULTON, MS - The No. 10 ICC softball team defeated No. 19 Northwest Mississippi Community College, 8-1, to complete the sweep of the Rangers (11-5, 5-3 MACJC) on Wednesday.

The Indians (21-4, 6-2 MACJC) got on the board in the bottom of the first when Alex Brown (Pontotoc) sent a shot over the left-center fence before putting a pair of runs on the board in the second on a ground out by Brown and a two-out single by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston).

Lane Kennedy (Smithville) singled and scored on a two-out single by Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) to give the Indians a 4-0 lead after four innings.

Addie Thompson (Hamilton) got the bats heated up in the fifth inning with a double off the fence and scored on a single by Bre Harford (Southaven) after advancing on sacrifice bunt by Taylor Thornton (Carrollton). Hartford stole second before scoring on a two-out single by Kennedy to put ICC up 6-0 heading into the sixth inning.

Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) and Harford pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to help give the Indians an 8-1 victory to complete the sweep of the Rangers.

Kennedy sparked the Indians' 10-hit performance by going three-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI. Hollenhead and Harford had a pair of hits each.

Carleigh Mills (Corinth) scattered eight hits, walked two and struck out five in six scoreless innings of work to improve to 9-1 on the season.

The Indians will host Pearl River Community College (15-10, 5-5 MACJC) starting at 1:00  Friday in a conference doubleheader originally scheduled for Saturday.
