Mills wins pitcher's duel to complete sweep of Jackson State

FULTON, MS – The night cap of Itawamba Community College's doubleheader with Jackson State Community College(TN), was a pitcher's duel but freshman Carleigh Mills (Corinth) led the Indians to a 4-0 win behind her complete game, three hit, 11 strikeout performance. 

Mills, who struck out five of the first eight batters she faced, didn't allow a hit until the top of the fourth, but was in a heated battled as the indians were unable to take advantage of a bases loaded no outs situation in the bottom of the first. 

Both teams struggled against to find any offense, but Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) gave the Indians the lead in the fifth when she reached on an error that scored Alex Brown (Pontotoc), who reached after being hit by a pitch. 

After a fielder's choice were Bradley and Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) reached bases safely, Addie Thompson (Houston) stepped up and hit a three run home run over the right center field fence to give the Indians a 4-0 lead.

The lead was more than enough for Mills to close out the contest as she allowed only one hit in the final two frames and struck out three, including the final two batters, to complete the sweep with a 4-0 win.

The Indians won't get much rest between games this week as they travel to Gadsden, AL Sunday for games against Gadsden State Community College and Lake Land College (IL). In their first game, the Indians will face Lake Land at 1 p.m. before take on the hosting Gadsden State squad at 4 p.m.
