FULTON, MS – The ICC softball team returned to Fulton with good news waiting for them after closing the regular season with a sweep of Jackson State (TN) Community College on Wednesday.

While the Lady Indians (32-11) were taking care of business in Tennessee, Northwest Mississippi Community College (26-8) and Northeast Mississippi Community College (18-15) split their doubleheader in Booneville giving ICC and Northwest a share of the MACJC North Division championship.

"I'm really proud of this group of girls and what they've been able to accomplish so far this season," said Coach Andy Kirk. "They never gave up through injuries and frustrations with all the weather delays. They battled and found a way to put us in a position to win a share of the North and earn a spot in the playoffs."

The Lady Indians have been owners or part owners of the MACJC North Division crown in four-straight seasons, winning the title outright during the 2012, 2013, and 2014, and are the only program in the state to finish in the Top 2 of the division for eight-consecutive seasons.

They also won the 2010 North Division championship.

ICC will be the No. 2 seed from the North after league tiebreaker rules and host the three seed out of the South Division No. 10 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the best-of-three series in the opening round of the MACJC Softball Tournament.

"Gulf Coast has had some battles this season in a very tough South Division and very easily could've have been the number two seed from that part of the state," said Kirk. "We are going to have to be on top of our game and be ready to play when they roll into town this weekend."

The first game of the series is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on Friday with game two slated for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. If needed, game three will follow after a brief break between games.
