MOORHEAD, MS – Itawamba Community College dominated game one against Mississippi Delta Community College on Monday, but game two proved to be more of a challenge for the Lady Indians.

The Lady Trojans stayed within striking distance throughout the contest, but the Lady Indians (20-8, 12-3 MACJC North) were able to pull away to pick up the 8-3 win and the sweep.

Just like game one, the Lady Indians came out swinging, plating four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a Katelynn Downey (Liberty, MO), who finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs) two run scoring single. However, the Lady Trojans answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own.

The Lady Trojans pulled within one run after two complete frames, but a lead off solo home run by Arriann Henry (Ecru) in the third would give the Lady Indians a two run advantage.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Indians would pick up two insurance runs on singles by Autumn Bonner (Fayette, AL) and Downey. A sacrifice fly by Courtney Roberts (Hatley) that scored Henry, who led off the inning with a double, rounded out the scoring to give the Lady Indians the win.

Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) picked up her fifth win of the season with four and a third innings of work while striking out four.

The sweep puts the Lady Indians one game back of Northwest Mississippi Community College for best in the North Division.

The Lady Indians have a chance to take over the top spot in the division as they host Holmes Community College and Northwest for back-to-back doubleheaders this week. Wednesday, the Lady Indians will host Holmes and on Thursday, they will host Northwest. First pitch for both twin bills is set for 2 p.m.
