FULTON, MS – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2014 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II All-American Teams over the weekend featuring Itawamba Community College third baseman and Delta State signee Kory Watterson.
"We are extremely proud of Kory and everything she's accomplished this season," Coach Andy Kirk. "She was the type of player you really didn't have to say much to because she was always pushing herself to get better in every aspect of the game both on and off the field."
Watterson, who was also selected to the NFCA NJCAA Division II All-South Region team, batted .473 with a .497 on-base percentage and .818 slugging percentage. She led the team with 135 total bases, 78 hits, 33 extra base hits, 21 doubles, 12 home runs and 56 RBI while only striking out twice in 165 at-bats in her final season at ICC.
"Kory was a big part of why we were able to win back-to-back North Division titles and have back-to-back 30 win seasons," said Kirk. "She was part of a great sophomore class that not only took care of business on the field, but showed a lot of great leadership away from the field."
The Nesbit, MS native is the fourth player to earn All-American status in the past five years joining the ranks of former Lady Indians CeCee Austin, Kimmy Nicholson, and Jessi Patterson and is the first player to earn NFCA All-American honors.
Watterson also earned a spot on the first-ever Marucci Elite Hitters team awarded by the NJCAA in May along with being named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State and NJCAA Region 23 teams.
