The Itawamba Community College softball had a milestone day in Jackson, TN in their regular-season ending sweep of Jackson State Community College on Tuesday.
The No. 17 Lady Indians (35-10, 21-3 MACJC North) set a new a record for most wins in a season after notching their 35th win of the season and helped Coach Andy Kirk earn his 100th win in his third season with a 10-1 Game 2 five-inning victory over the Generals.
"These records are a reflection of all the hard work the girls put into the season," said Kirk. "I'm proud to be a small part of their success because without all the dedication of the girls this season and the players that came before them none of this would be possible."
Kirk is currently second in career wins behind former head coach Chad Case (2008-2011), who amassed a record of 103 wins and 47 losses while leading the program to its first-ever North Division title in 2010.
"Coach Case is the guy that helped established the winning ways of the program," said Kirk. "I've been blessed with a lot of girls that have taken pride in being a Lady Indian and keeping those winning ways going over the past three seasons."
The Lady Indians had 13 hits with Delta State signee Kory Watterson (Nesbit) going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and 4 RBIs. Montana Hawkins (Sulligent, AL) picked up her 12th win of year after striking out 5 batters and scattering 4 hits in the complete game victory.
In Game 1, the Lady Indians won 14-6 in five innings.
