SENATOBIA, MS – The No. 15 ICC softball team took a big step in defending their back-to-back MACJC North Division championships with the program's first-ever sweep of Northwest Mississippi Community College at Ranger Field on Wednesday.

The Lady Indians (21-10, 13-3 MACJC North) complete the sweep with a 10-1 win, in six innings, after winning the first game of the afternoon, 5-2.

ICC exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth to break open a 1-1 contest.

Heather Dillard (New Albany) singled to start off the inning and came around to score on a single by Kory Watterson (Nesbit) to give the Lady Indians their first lead of the game. Emilee Henderson (Burnsville) moved Watterson and Haley Moore (Booneville) into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before Catherine Carver (Hernando) drove both with a double to left.

Carver scored on a double by Cara Hopper (Caledonia), who scored on a triple by Ashley Langford (Caledonia) to give ICC a 6-1 lead before the Rangers (19-12, 10-6 MACJC North) could get out of the inning.

Henderson and Watterson scored on a two-out error in the sixth before Hopper bounced a two-run home run off the scoreboard to give the Lady Indians the 10-1 advantage.

Montana Hawkins (Sulligent, AL) picked up the win after giving up one earned run and scattering three hits in four innings of work to improve to 7-4 on the season.

The Lady Indians totaled 13 hits with Watterson, Carver, Hopper and Dillard going 2-for-3 in the win.

Lady Indians hold late rally to pick up Game 1 win, 5-2

ICC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after pushing across runs in the top of the first and third innings before Carver scored on a ground out by Henderson and Watterson added another run on a single to left by Arriann Henry (Ecru) to push the Lady Indians ahead 4-0 in the fifth.

Moore scored on a sacrifice fly by Henderson in the top of the seventh to take a 5-0 lead.

Northwest rallied with a one-out solo home run by Naomi Newcom and a RBI single by Alex Barrett before Hannah Johnson (Branson, MO) induced a ground out to end the inning to move to 9-4 in the complete game victory.

Johnson gave up two earned runs on 7 hits while striking out 5 in the win.
Moore went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three runs scored as the Lady Indians had 8 hits in the win.
