Lady Indians split North Division doubleheader at East Mississippi

SCOOBA, MS – In a pair of games that saw two of the top North Division teams combine for everything statistically possible, minus a hitting a triple, the Lady Indians split a pair of road decisions with the East Mississippi Lady Lions on Saturday.

Game 1 – Lady Indians 9 East Mississippi 7

Trailing 3-1, the Lady Indians scored five runs with two outs in the top of the second to race out to a 6-3 lead in the first game of the afternoon.

Cara Hopper (Caldeonia) got the rally started with a hard-hit single up the middle and advanced on a single by Heather Dillard (New Albany) before scoring on a single by Haley Moore (Booneville). Dillard and Moore scored on a single by Kory Watterson (Nesbit), who scored on a double to the gap by Catherine Carver (Hernando). Carver scored on a carbon-copy double to the gap by Ashley Langford (Caldeonia) to make it a 6-3 contest.

East Mississippi answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to take a 7-6 lead.

Autumn Bonner (Fayette, AL) single to start the fifth and scored on a balk to tie the game before Moore singled and scored on a double by Watterson, who scored on a sac fly by Langford to take a 9-7 advantage into the final frame.

Hopper entered in the fifth to keep the Lady Lions scoreless after giving up one hit and striking out three to pick up the win.

Moore went 3-for-4 as the Lady Indians had 15 hits in the win.

Game 2 – East Mississippi 6 Lady Indians 3

Carver doubled and scored on a single by Bonner to tie, 1-1, but the Lady Lions answered with four runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back as they earned the split with a 6-3 Game 2 win.

Langford hit a two-run home run in the fourth to pull the Lady Indians within 5-3, but EMCC once again answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning.

ICC had two runners thrown out trying to score late in the contest.

The Lady Indians only managed five hits in the loss.
