SENATOBIA, MS – Freshman pitcher Montana Hawkins (Sulligent, AL) threw a two-hit complete game shutout to help the Lady Indians earn a split with the Northwest Mississippi  Community College with a G2 1-0 North Division victory on Thursday.

"I thought the girls battled hard," said ICC head coach Andy Kirk. "We've got some key games right out of the gate to start division play and it's big anytime you can get a split when you are on the road."

Sophomore Jessi Patterson (Nettleton) had a pair of doubles, including the eventual game-winning double to score Catherine Carver (Hernando) in the top of the third inning.

"That's what we expect out of Jessi," commented Kirk. "The Northwest pitchers were doing a good job of keeping our bats quite and Jessi did a great job stepping up to make something happen for us in a clutch situation."

Carver singled for ICC's only other hit of the game.

Roxanna Kimes and Casey Baddley each singled for the Lady Rangers lone hits in the game.

Hawkins stuck out three batters and walked another in the win.

"You have to give Montana a lot of credit for not getting rattled," Kirk said. "We weren't about to give her much run support, but she kept battling each inning to for us to be able to get the split."

The Lady Indians improve to 7-6-1 overall and 3-1 in MACJC North Division play.
