Itawamba Community College head softball coach Andy Kirk announced Lexus Jordan, Emily Cox and Anna McCrary each signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Lady Indians next season.
“All three of these players will help add depth to our roster in key positions for next season,” said Kirk. “I feel like all three will be able to come in and compete for starting roles right away.”
Patterson is the third-straight Lady Indian to earn NJCAA All-American honors following in the footsteps of former high school teammate Kimmy Nicholson (2011, third team) and South Pontotoc graduate CeCee Austin (2010, third team).
The Itawamba Community College softball team had eight players named to the 2012 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-North teams when they were released on Tuesday.
In their second game of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament at Traceway Park in Clinton the Lady Indians recorded another first when they won their fist-ever fast pitch playoff game with a 14-3 win over Pearl River Community College in five innings on Friday.
Kami Roberts singled and had a RBI double to lead the Lady Indians' bats while Jessi Patterson, Holly Schlicht, Lindsay Richardson, Ashley Camp and Jasna Clay all had singles.
Nicholson, an outfielder, was named first-team All Trans-South Conference after batting .284 during the regular season with two home runs, 19 RBI and a league-leading 23 stolen bases for the Blue Mountain Toppers
For the second time in three years Pearl River used a seventh inning rally to eliminate the ICC Lady Indians in the opening round of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Softball Tournament.
The Lady Indians (33-10, 22-2) earned the right to host this year's single-elimination tournament by winning the North Division and will play Pearl River Community College, the No. 4 seed out of the South Division, Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in the opening round of the tournament.
The Itawamba Community College softball team secured its second Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division championship in the past three years after sweeping Coahoma Community College 11-3 and 7-4 in their Breast Cancer Awareness series on Saturday.
"These are three big additions to our lineup next season," said Kirk, who is in his first season as the Lady Indians' head coach. "All three of these girls bring a wide range of talent offensively and defensively along with the potential of a lot of leadership both on and off the field."
The rally geese came through for the Indians again, this time Monday on the softball diamond. As they hovered above right field, Kami Roberts delivered a walk-off RBI single to cap ICC's sweep over rival Northeast with a 4-3 Game 2 win.
Watterson, a first baseman, batted .400 during her junior campaign for Coach Phyllis Jones and the DeSoto Central Lady Jaguars. She had a .405 on-base percentage and .563 slugging percentage.
"Playing at ICC is going to be a wonderful experience," said Jones. "Ever since I was little I've always dreamed of playing at the next level and I'm super excited about being able to do that at a program like ICC."
Boykin, a utility player, is a five-time All-District selection with a .414 batting average and .438 on-base percentage along with 94 stolen bases and 84 RBIs in five seasons with Coach Trae Embry and the Lady Eagles.
"Our community gives us so much we always like to give back in any way that we can," said first-year ICC softball coach Andy Kirk. "Just going out there for a couple days was very humbling for the girls and being able to spend time with the elderly seemed to really mean a lot to them."
