Indians drop season opener to No. 20 Meridian

FULTON, Miss. – Freshman Franco Roldan made an impressive collegiate debut in the Indians' 7-2 loss to No. 20 Meridian on Friday.

Roldan (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Blake Gregory (Pontotoc) paired up to pick up a hard-fought 9-8 victory in No. 1 doubles over Chris Stevens and Max Mauney. Roldan closed out his day by quickly defeating Corey Jones in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) in No. 1 singles action.

Doubles

Sergio Garcia-Uruena (Cota, Cundinamarca) and Zak Keith (Tupelo) dropped an 8-2 decision to Chase Rigdon and Michail Phillips in No. 2 doubles. Hayden Embry (Philadelphia) and Reese Duncan (Pontotoc) fell 8-1 in No. 3 doubles action to Guillermo Martin Tunon and Jacob Wiggins.

Singles

Garcia-Uruena dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Rigdon in No. 2 singles play. In No. 3 singles, Duncan lost a 7-5, 6-4 battle with Mauney before Keith fell to Tunon 6-4, 6-4 in No. 4 singles action. Embry fought back in hopes to force the match in a third set, but came up short to Phillips 6-4, 7-6 in No. 5 singles. Gregory fell 6-2, 6-4 to Wiggins in No. 6 singles play.

The Indians will be back in action Saturday, February 9 when they host Holmes.
