No. 20 Indians defeats East Central, 6-3

DECATUR, Miss. – The Indians won their third-straight match with a 6-3 road win over East Central Community College on Friday.

The Indians picked their third point of the day after David Garcia-Perez (Madrid, Spain) and Edson Marchant (Haleyville, Ala.) won the tiebreaker, 7-5, over Tom Langelaar and Joseph Jabour in the 9-8 victory in No. 1 doubles.

In. No. 2 doubles, Ezra Blissard (Houston) and Michael Crotts (New Albany) defeated Landon Gibson and Willie Wooten 8-5 after Blake Gregory (Pontotoc) and Roberto Valadez (New Albany) knocked off Emontie Lewis and Jake Wofford 8-1 in No. 3 doubles play.

Valadez battled to earn a win over Jabour with a 10-6 win in the tiebreaker set. Valadez picked up a 6-1 win in the first set before seeing Jabour rally to force the extra frame with a 6-2 victory in the second set of the No. 3 singles match.

Blissard took care of Wooten 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles action. Crotts battled to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory over Gibson in No. 5 singles play.

Garcia-Perez retired the No. 1 singles match to Langelaar. Marchant fell to Lewis 6-4, 6-7 (10-7) in No. 4 singles. Applewhite dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Keen in No. 6 singles.


The Indains will face their toughest test of the season when No. 6 Seminole State College (Okla.) comes to town on Thursday.
