No. 20 Indians beat East Central, 6-3

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 20 Indians took care of East Central Community College in their home opener with a 6-3 win behind a pair of extra set wins from Ezra Blissard and Blake Gregory in singles action.

Blissard (Houston) picked up a 6-3 win in the opening set before Willie Wooten rallied with a 6-3 win in the second set to force the No. 2 singles match into an extra frame. Blissard rallied to secure the point for the Indians with a 10-8 win.

Gregory (Pontotoc) open No. 6 singles play with a 6-4 win in the first set but Issac Keen bounced back to extend the match with a 6-3 win in the second set. Gregory dug deep to fight off Keen for the 10-8 win to pick up the point for the Indians.

David Garcia-Perez (Madrid, Spain) took care of Tom Langelaar 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play with Roberto Valadez (New Albany) picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Joseph Jabour in No. 3 singles.

Edson Marchant (Haleyville, Ala.) retired the No. 4 singles match after rallying to take a 5-3 lead in the second set and dropping the first set 6-3. Michael Crotts (New Albany) dropped a hard-fought three-set No. 5 singles match. Crotts rallied with a 6-3 win to force the match into an extra frame after dropping a 7-5 decision in the first half.

Blissard and Crotts picked up an 8-2 win over Gibson and Wooten in No. 2 doubles while Gregory and Valadez defeated Lewis and Wofford 8-4 in No. 3 doubles play.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Garcia-Perez and Marchant dropped a 9-7 decision to Langelaar and Jabour.

The Indians travel to Raymond to face off with the No. 24 Hinds Community College on Saturday.
